Terms of Service

StoryVault · Effective: September 3, 2026 · Last updated: September 25, 2026
Applies to the service at journal.storyvault.me

In short: StoryVault is a private journal. Your journal is yours. If you pay for a subscription, you can cancel any time and get a full refund on request within 30 days of any charge. StoryVault is a companion and a scribe — it is not therapy and it is not a crisis line. These terms say the same thing in slightly more words.

1. Who you are agreeing with

StoryVault is operated by Extendica LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Utah, United States (“StoryVault”, “we”, “us”). These terms are a contract between you and Extendica LLC. They are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute that cannot be worked out by email will be brought in the courts of that state.

By creating an account or using StoryVault — on the web, through the command-line tool, or through a connected AI host such as ChatGPT or Claude — you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use StoryVault.

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your region) to use StoryVault, and at least 18 to buy a subscription.

2. A companion and a scribe — not therapy, not a crisis line

StoryVault is not medical care, mental-health care, or emergency care. It is a journal companion. It listens, asks a question or two, and writes your day down in your own words. It is not a therapist, a counselor, a doctor, or a crisis service, and nothing it says is medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.

If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, do not use StoryVault for help. In the United States, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Elsewhere, call your local emergency number or a local crisis line. Talk to a person.

StoryVault may respond to hard days with a short, plain redirect to real help. That is a courtesy, not monitoring. We do not watch your journal, and we cannot detect an emergency or send anyone to you. Please do not rely on StoryVault to notice when something is wrong.

The writing StoryVault produces is generated by AI from what you said. It can mishear you, get a detail wrong, or phrase something in a way you would not. Read your entries; edit or delete anything that is not right. You, not StoryVault, are the author of your journal.

3. Your account

4. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds

Some StoryVault features may require a paid subscription. Where they do, this is how it works:

Cancelling or letting a subscription lapse never deletes your journal. Reading, searching, and exporting your own journal are never behind the paywall (see section 5).

5. Your journal is yours

Everything you say to StoryVault and everything StoryVault writes from it belongs to you. We claim no ownership of your entries, photos, voice samples, or anything else you put in your journal.

So that StoryVault can work, you give us permission to store, transcribe, process, and display your content — to you, and to the connected hosts you choose — for the purpose of running your journal. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups that expire on their own schedule.

6. Acceptable use

StoryVault is a private journal. Use it as one. Do not:

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Where we can, we will tell you why and give you the chance to export your journal first.

7. Service availability

We work hard to keep StoryVault up, but we run it on a best-effort basis. There is no uptime guarantee. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, because of a provider outage (hosting, telephony, AI, payments), or because something broke. We may add, change, or retire features. If we ever plan to shut StoryVault down, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice and a way to export your journal.

Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you. Export is always available; please use it.

8. Limitation of liability

StoryVault is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Extendica LLC and the people who work on StoryVault are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or emotional distress, arising from your use of or inability to use StoryVault. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose (or, if you have paid nothing, one hundred US dollars).

Some places do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law gives you and does not let you waive.

You agree to hold Extendica LLC harmless from claims that arise from your content or your breach of these terms.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as StoryVault changes. If a change matters to you — it affects your money, your data, or your rights — we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. Minor edits (typos, clarifications) take effect when we post them. The effective date at the top of this page always shows the current version. If you keep using StoryVault after a change takes effect, you accept it; if you do not accept it, cancel and export your journal before then.
